WoW: Forever

Discipline Priest

Shields and mitigation rather than repair — "there cannot be Light without Dark." Rated 5 out of 5 for dungeons and 2.5 for levelling, which tells you exactly what it is for.

WoW: Forever · Healer · Updated September 30, 2026 · Beta build 1.60.1.70124 · Null Ossuary

Is Discipline worth levelling?

No, not solo. The published heading is "Struggles To Solo Level": "Discipline Priest has decent single-target damage, but they lack in AoE damage. It's typically recommended to play with a group if you plan to level as Discipline, otherwise it is a better idea to primarily use Shadow talents until you're able to get into group content."

Its ratings make the shape of the spec plain: Overall 4.5, Levelling 2.5, Dungeon 5.0, Utility 4.0, Mobility 1.0. It is the best dungeon healer in the class and among the worst soloers in the game.

The recommendation is to level Shadow and respec. That is not a workaround — it is what the guides say to do.

Your talent points

Level 20 — there is a healer build and a damage build, and the damage one is a real published option.

Healer, 6/0/5: Wand Specialization 2 → Spirit Tap 5 (Shadow) → Twin Disciplines 3 → Improved Power Word: Shield 1. The first two are called "the most critical" and "the second most important".

Healer alternative, 8/3/0: Wand Specialization 2 / Twin Disciplines 3 / Improved Power Word: Shield 3 / Twilight Focus 3. No Spirit Tap.

The Smite damage build, 11/0/0: Wand Specialization 2 → Twin Disciplines 3 → Holy Precision 1 → Power in Light 5. This is the one to use if you intend to quest as Discipline.

Level 30 — 21/0/0, damage build, in order: Wand Specialization 2 → Power in Light 5 → Holy Precision 1 → Martyrdom 2 → Inner Focus 1 → Meditation 3 → Mental Agility 1 → Mental Strength 5 → Penance at 30.

No source publishes a level-30 Discipline healing build. That is a gap, not an omission on our part.

Rotation

Solo damage:

  1. Power Word: Fortitude and Inner Fire up
  2. Power Word: Shield before you pull
  3. Holy Fire on the furthest or highest-priority target — this is what sets up Power in Light
  4. Smite as it closes
  5. Mind Blast
  6. Shadow Word: Pain
  7. Wand until it dies — "generally recommended to use your wand to finish off a foe rather than Smite or Mind Blast"

Healing: Power Word: Shield to buy yourself a cast → Heal → Renew for chip damage. From 30, Penance on a 12-second cooldown.

Multi-target: none is published, and the spec's one listed weakness is "lacks group/AoE healing." Say it plainly rather than implying it with a gap.

Stat priority

Healing: Healing Power, then MP5, Spirit, Intellect, critical strike. One published list reorders to Healing Power > Intellect > MP5 > Spirit > crit.

Critical strike is talked up here where Holy talks it down, and the reason is mechanical: Renewed Hope and Divine Aegis both trigger off healing crits.

For the Smite damage build: Spell Power or Holy power, then Hit, Intellect, critical strike.

Worth knowing: healing bonus on gear now also grants one third as much spell damage, which makes the damage build less of a gear split than it sounds.

What defines Discipline

TalentEarliest levelWhat it does
Penanceexactly 30New. 12-second cooldown; pulses instantly then once a second for 2 seconds. Heals an ally or damages an enemy
Soul Warding25The 16-point milestone: −4 seconds off Power Word: Shield's cooldown and −15% mana
Divine Aegis35Critical heals leave an absorb worth 5% of the heal

What Forever changed for Priests

  • New: Power in Light, Twin Disciplines, Holy Precision, Soul Warding, Penance, Renewed Hope, Divine Aegis. Removed: Unbreakable Will, Improved Power Word: Fortitude, Force of Will.
  • Divine Spirit is no longer a talent — it is trained from level 30. Power Infusion now requires Penance.
  • Wand Specialization is 2 ranks reaching 25%, where Classic needed 5. That is the mechanical reason every wand-levelling build front-loads it. Separately, wands no longer gain spell power as of the September 24 patch.
  • Meditation is 17% per rank, where Classic gave 5%. Mental Strength now grants +3% Intellect per rank — 15% at 5/5, which this build takes.
  • Power Word: Shield can now overwrite an existing shield on a target who has no Weakened Soul.
  • Mind Flay is talent-only in Forever, gated on 10 points in Shadow. No published Discipline build reaches it, so in practice you will not have it — see the Shadow page.

At level 60

Unknown: whether absorb-stacking — Divine Aegis plus Renewed Hope plus Soul Warding — beats raw throughput in raids. Penance's numbers scale off gear whose stats are hidden until it drops, and no raid has been tested.
