WoW: Forever

Holy Priest

The reactive Light healer with the broadest toolkit and the lowest skill floor — "great all-rounders… very beginner-friendly." If you have never healed before, this is where to start, and you should still level as Shadow.

WoW: Forever · Healer · Updated September 30, 2026 · Beta build 1.60.1.70124 · Null Ossuary

Is Holy worth levelling?

No — and this is the bluntest verdict published about any spec in the game. The heading is "Zero AoE and Lackluster Damage": "While Holy Priests are great at their role of healing, they lack tools to solo level effectively. It's typically recommended to play with a group if you plan to level as Holy, otherwise it is a better idea to primarily use Shadow talents until you're able to get into group content."

Ratings: Overall 3.5, Levelling 2.0, Dungeon 4.0, Utility 4.0, Mobility 1.0.

Level Shadow and respec. Nothing is lost by doing that — you will heal dungeons perfectly well with Shadow talents while you get there, and Holy is the most forgiving healing spec once you arrive.

Your talent points

Level 20 — three published builds, and they disagree fundamentally about whether to spend points outside the tree.

Build A, 2/4/5, leaning on Shadow's mana regeneration: Wand Specialization 2 / Twilight Focus 2 / Spirit Tap 5 / Improved Renew 2. ⚠ Its prose and its own calculator disagree on whether Spirit Tap or Twilight Focus comes first. The totals are identical either way.

Build B, 0/11/0, pure Holy: Improved Renew 3 / Holy Specialization 5 / Divine Fury 3. No Wand Specialization, no Spirit Tap.

Build C, 0/11/0, also pure: Holy Specialization 5 → Divine Fury 5 → Holy Nova at 20.

Level 30 — 0/21/0, in order: Holy Specialization 5 → Divine Fury 5 → Inspiration 3 → Holy Nova → Twilight Focus 1 → Improved Healing 3 → Binding Heal → Twilight Focus to 2/3 → Spirit of Redemption.

Rotation

Solo damage — this is Discipline's rotation minus Holy Fire:

  1. Power Word: Fortitude and Inner Fire up
  2. Power Word: Shield before you pull
  3. Smite
  4. Mind Blast
  5. Shadow Word: Pain
  6. Wand to finish

Healing: Power Word: Shield → Heal → Renew. From 25 add Binding Heal; from 30 add Prayer of Healing.

Multi-target: Holy Nova is your only area spell, and no source puts it in a levelling rotation. The page that publishes the build is headed "Zero AoE and Lackluster Damage". Treat Holy Nova as a healing tool with a damage component, not as a farming spell.

Stat priority

Healing Power, then MP5, Spirit, Intellect, critical strike.

Critical strike is explicitly last, and the reasoning is specific to this spec: "Critical Strike is likely the lowest of our stat priorities as a Holy Priest… crits you may get will often translate into accidental overhealing." A second published list gives Healing Power > Intellect > MP5 > Spirit > crit.

Note that healing bonus on gear also grants one third as much spell damage, which softens the gear split if you are questing.

What Forever changed for Priests

  • New: Binding Heal, Litany of Light, Prayer of Mending. Removed: Improved Prayer of Healing.
  • Lightwell is no longer a talent — it is trained from level 40, in 3 ranks.
  • Spiritual Guidance now converts 25% of Spirit to healing but only 8% to spell damage, where Classic gave 25% to both. This is a direct nerf to Holy's solo damage and part of why the levelling rating is 2.0.
  • Twilight Focus now covers any spell at 23% per rank, where Classic covered healing spells at 35%. Litany of Light refunds 5% of base cost when you alternate heals.
  • Renew can now critically strike, as of the September 24 patch.
  • Divine Spirit is trained from level 30, not a talent. Fear Ward is baseline for every Priest, at 3 minutes' duration on a 3-minute cooldown.
  • Wand Specialization is 2 ranks reaching 25% where Classic needed 5, and wands no longer gain spell power.
  • Mind Flay is talent-only, gated on 10 Shadow points. No published Holy build reaches it — see the Shadow page.

At level 60

Unknown: whether Prayer of Mending and Litany of Light give Holy enough mana efficiency and raid throughput to close the gap that Discipline currently holds in every published rating.
