WoW: Forever

Camping

New in Forever, and not optional flavour. A cook lights a fire, everyone drops one crafted object beside it, and the whole group carries the buffs for an hour — including buffs that normally need a specific class.

How camping works

  1. A cook places a campfire. Basic Campfire Kit takes 1 Simple Wood and Flint and Tinder. It burns 15 minutes, and no other campfire can be within 100 yards
  2. Each player adds one object from their own profession, learned at skill 20
  3. Sit or craft beside the fire for one minute
  4. The buffs last an hour, and you can walk away

Camp objects share a one-hour cooldown, so this is a thing you do once before a session, not between pulls.

Objects are tradeable, but placing one needs the skill. You cannot buy your way to a full camp.

What each profession brings

Every profession has three objects, at skill 20, 140 and 300. The 140 and 300 ones come from Blueprints that drop from dungeon bosses, and each replacement keeps the buff of the object it replaces.

The pattern is the point: a camp hands a group the class buffs it does not have. A party with no Paladin can still have Blessing of Kings, Might and Wisdom. None of them stacks with the real thing — you keep one or the other, never both.

Two specific catches. The Camp Tent is a top-up, not a stack: "does nothing if you already have more." And the Faction Banner only buffs your own faction, with separate Horde and Alliance recipes.

Note the two columns. You can learn a Blueprint well before you can craft the kit — which is why guides quote different numbers for the same thing. Both are right; they are printing different columns.

Two published numbers that disagree

  • Blizzard's panel says the Sharpening Wheel gives attack power. The beta client says Strength. The client is what is live, and both guide sites follow it.
  • Blizzard's panel says a basic campfire allows three objects. The client shows 3, 5 and 10 for the three kit tiers. The panel was describing the basic kit.

What is not known

Whether camps function in cities and in instances. Whether you must be grouped to receive another player's buff — this matters a lot and nobody has answered it. How many objects one craft produces. And where each of the 140 and 300 Blueprints drops, beyond "specific dungeon bosses". Two are known: Alchemy's Fermenter Blueprint drops in Wailing Caverns and Ruins of Lordaeron.
